SubSeven could be used, for instance, to steal passwords and hide its identity, things a reasonable system administrator shouldn't do. It reached global popularity, and its features clearly set it apart from the legitimate remote access tool. As a matter of fact, it is believed that Sub7 is NetBus spelled backward, with the “ten” replaced by “seven.” SubSeven, allegedly built by mobman, took the game to a whole new level. NetBus inspired others, including the infamous Sub7 or SubSeven. “I can never get back the lost years,” Eriksson said. The media scandal that followed forced him to leave the country, and although he was acquitted in 2004, the damage was considerable. “For me it was unbelievable,” Eriksson told Swedish publication Expressen. The system administrators discovered them, and the law professor lost his job. The attacker planted 12,000 pornographic images on his computer, 3,500 of which featured child pornography. In 1999, someone downloaded NetBus and targeted Magnus Eriksson, a law professor at Lund University in Sweden. “However, if you didn’t already figure it out, it is still a very nice tool to use for the other purpose,” Kulakow wrote. The developer claimed he didn’t want NetBus to be used maliciously, saying it was “a legit remote admin tool,” security researcher Seth Kulakow wrote in a paper he published with the SANS Institute. ![]() NetBus, for instance, was created by Carl-Fredrik Neikter in 1998, and its name, translated from Swedish, means “NetPrank.” Yet, they were “innovative and disruptive,” Valeros says. These tools were built for amusement or just to show that it can be done. ![]() were among the first, followed by NetBus, Back Orifice and SubSeven. ![]() Soon after that, in 1996, their first malicious counterparts were created. The oldest legitimate remote access software was built in the late 1980s, when tools such as NetSupport appeared. RATs have come a long way since NokNok knocked on Windows computers and launched this new chapter in computer security history. RATs have become essential for any type of cybercriminal activity, being used by cybercriminals, nation-state hackers, as well as stalkers. “They kind of go down a little bit, and then they come back.” “Some of the RATs have been out for ten years now, and they're still getting used,” she says. While ransomware families come and go, RATs are known for their longevity and reemergence, says another researcher, Lindsay Kaye, the director of operational outcomes for Insikt Group at Recorded Future. ![]() “While most of the previous ones were focusing on Windows, we saw some diversity-other platforms like Mac, Linux, and Android were being supported.” “The number of RATs really, really took off,” Valeros said. She counted more than 250 RATs that surfaced in the 2010s as opposed to just 70 in the 2000s. Valeros said during a Virus Bulletin 2020 presentation that the number of RAT families grew rapidly in recent years. The two have spent the last few years trying to analyze the evolution of this type of malware, studying no less than 337 well-known families, looking at things such as functionalities, quality of the software, and purpose. It’s the malicious remote access software that interests security researchers Veronica Valeros and Sebastian García at the Czech Technical University in Prague. ![]() Digital pins on the Arduino are pins designed to be configured as inputs or outputs according to the needs of the user. The ADC converts voltage into bits which the microprocessor can understand. On Arduino, the ADC has 10-bit resolution, meaning it can represent analogue voltage by 1,024 digital levels. Arduino Pins A0-A7 are capable of reading analogue voltages. This digital representation of analogue signals allows the processor (which is a digital device) to measure the analogue signal and use it through its operation. ADC is an electronic circuit used to convert analogue signals into digital signals. Analog to Digital ConversionĪDC stands for Analogue to Digital Converter. These pins serve as analogue inputs, but can also function as digital inputs or digital outputs. The Arduino® Nano has 8 analogue pins, which utilize ADC (Analogue to Digital converter). You can find 2 reset pin’s and one button on the Arduino® Nano, which are all interconnected. ![]() Always make sure that all GND’s (of the Arduino, peripherals and components) are connected to one another and have a common ground. The GND pins are used to close the electrical circuit and provide a common logic reference level throughout your circuit. You can find 2 GND pins on the Arduino® Nano, which are all interconnected. The 5.0V and 3.3V Pin provide regulated 5.0V and 3.3V to power external components according to manufacturer specifications. Take into consideration that this is also used for powering the MCU, its peripherals, the on-board regulators, and the components connected to it. For instance, powering the circuit using the USB limits you to 500mA. The power source you use determines the power you have available for your circuit. The Second one is the USB connector, when connected to the computer, provides 5 volts at 500mA. Above 12 volts, the regulators might overheat, and below 7 volts, might not suffice. The board can be powered by 5-20 volts, but the manufacturer recommends keeping it between 7-12 volts. This pin is used to power the Arduino® Nano board using an external power source. There are 2 ways to power the Arduino® Nano, the first is the VIN Pin. In this post, we’ll go over the capabilities of the Arduino® Nano pinout. The versatility of the pinout provides many different options such as driving motors, LED’s, reading sensors and more. The Arduino® Nano pinout consists of 14 digital pins, 6 analogue inputs, USB connection and ICSP header. Arduino® Nano is based on the ATmega328 by Atmel. In this post, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Arduino® Nano hardware, and more specifically, the Arduino® Nano pinout. These are simple measurable quantities of distance, angle or something else geometrical forming a generalized coordinate vector $$\boldsymbol$ because we can write $v$ as a function of $t$ and we can also write $t$ as a function of $x$. First, we decide what the degrees of freedom are and assign generalized coordinates to them. Looking at a complex mechanical system, like a human launching a ball while riding on a skateboard. The common term for these "pseudo-independent" quantities is generalized coordinates. They are variables humans bless as independent in order to answer what-if scenarios and to establish mathematical models of systems byways of separation of variables. It is true, that in nature there is only one true independent variable, time. You should have in mind, that at least in theory, we always check our calculations with experiment, so we have an experimental proof instead of a mathematical one (generally). If there are special cases, they could be "obviously strange". I am not sure if there is a special case or not, but for physicists it is not important, because in 99.9% this will be true. From this it follows, that $v$ can be rewritten as function of either $t$ or $x$. This implys, that $dx/dt$ has allways that some non infinite value. And furthermore, we don't have infinite speed in real life. In order to define velocity, the object has to change its position in some amount of time. The thing is, that almost all functions, which can appear in nature or real life systems are, in most times, continuous and differentiable. Because we don't bother to cancel out derivatives, and we "NEVER" check if we can imply some rule on our equations. Well, this is the most common thing for which mathematicians make fun of physicists. Many books take it for granted that you're being careful about this, so they don't have to worry about it on your behalf. You also have to make sure you don't try to pull this stunt when the ball is at the very top of its trajectory (or more generally, at points where its velocity is zero). If you just write velocity as a function of height, you do have to be careful to make it clear from context which of the two functions - the "on the way up" function and the "on the way down" function - you're referring to. All of this is part of the content of the implicit function theorem, which you can google for. And moreover that function is differentiable and obeys the chain rule. So velocity is definitely not a (global) function of distance.īut this much is true: For any height $h$ except for the maximum height the ball ever reaches, there is some open interval around $h$ - some range of heights from $h-\epsilon$ to $h \epsilon$ - in which you can treat velocity as a well-defined function of height while the ball is on its way up, and another well-defined function of height while the ball is on its way back down. When it is at the same height $h$ on the way down, it has a negative (downward directed) velocity. When the ball is at height $h$ on the way up, it has a positive (upward directed) velocity. For example, as one commenter has already mentioned, throw a ball directly up in the air and wait for it to come down. You are correct that you cannot (globally) write velocity as a function of distance. ![]() Then, in mid-July, he was given a 2 1/2 week "rest." Contreras simply didn't seem to get into a groove accordingly, his final numbers pushing him to the afterthought category among fantasy options, but his raw stuff did shine through at certain times. ![]() He began the season as a long reliever, then was started on four days' rest only 10 out of 27 times (including his time at Triple-A) and in seven of those he was limited to fewer than 60 pitches. Contreras showed his strikeout-generating mettle with a 34.1% rate in their minor-league system following his January 2021 acquisition from the Yankees in the Jameson Taillon trade, but his restricted usage in 2022 seemed to have an adverse impact upon his performance. Roansy Contreras, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates: The Pirates kept Contreras on a short leash last season. He has already shown at this level that he has some of the best strike-zone judgment in the game and he's already off to a strong start this spring training. Triston Casas, 1B, Boston Red Sox: Although his 56.6% ground-ball rate in his brief big-league time didn't reflect it, Casas' power potential and penchant for fly balls makes him a sneaky-good power source. He should be primed for a significant rebound and is one of the players for whom I'm hoping the larger bases might lead to a new career high in the stolen base category (currently 20, in 2021). Considering the fluky nature of both injuries, it's easier to forgive Albies for the effectively lost campaign - especially since he managed 158, 160 and 156 games played in three of his previous four seasons.Īlbies had showed enhanced pop in 2021, setting personal bests with 30 home runs, 9.3% Statcast Barrel and 37.2% hard-hit rates, and had been one of the more efficient baserunners before last season's 3-of-8 performance on his attempts. ![]() 17 (only his second game back) cost him the remainder of the year. Then, a fractured left pinky finger suffered while sliding into second base on Sept. Ozzie Albies, 2B, Atlanta Braves: Bad luck on the injury front ruined his 2023, as a broken left foot suffered when he tripped while exiting the batter's box on June 13 cost him 81 games. Eventually, you start earning Continues (more quarters) and extra lives which can be toggled in the options menu, but I much prefer the modern gaming approach, which has virtually phased out the concept of “lives” and “continues” and has implemented checkpoints and respawns. And it’s not like you can just insert that coin, either, because you only have so many lives (that is, quarters) until it’s Game Over. “Player 1 (or 2) insert coin” flashes on the screen when somebody is dead or not playing. ![]() Unfortunately, Sega did nothing to hide the fact that this is an arcade game. What’s more, both players can calibrate the Wii Remotes in relation to where they’re sitting. Or, like old times, you can grab a friend and blow through the undead army together. Whereas most of us didn’t have the excessive quarters to afford duel-wielding in the arcade, it’s entirely possible and outrageously satisfying on the Wii. I loved Umbrella Chronicles because it invoked The House of the Dead this new package comes with all the goodies from the Xbox House 3 like Time Attack, while House 2 gets a boss rush and a unique “Original” mode featuring item collection (again, clearly inspired by the Resident Evil series (whoo!)). Each level ends with an impressive boss fight which relies almost exclusively on pattern memorization and weak point spamming.Īnd it’s incredibly fun. ![]() Extra lives are earned by rescuing innocent civilians from the rampaging undead, and depending on how many zombies you’ve killed or people you’ve rescued, there are several branching paths in each individual level. At any rate, the comical storyline can’t get in the way of the pure fun which comes from shooting zombies in the head and watching chunks go flying in all directions.įor those of you who’ve never been to an arcade before (where, honestly, this series is a staple), House of the Dead is a basic rail shooter in which you’re given a pistol and shoot zombies as they come running toward you. Just like the Mansion Incident, the zombies in The House of the Dead are accidental byproducts of a much more sinister experiment. The House of the Dead plotline is laughably similar to that of Resident Evil’s, including the virtual duplication of some boss monsters and overall “biological weapon” theme. The obvious light-gun potential of the Wii Remote helps make the game a whopping success, although there are instances when its arcade roots hold both games back from their true potential. Now, the latter two games have been compiled onto a single disk: House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return for Wii. In 2002, House of the Dead 3 shambled into arcades, but because the American arcade scene had largely dissolved, the game was also ported to Xbox in 2003. ![]() Two years later, Sega released The House of the Dead 2 in the arcades and later ported it to the Dreamcast, where it remains a system favorite. In fact, the original title penetrated our American arcade scene in 1996, which, ironically, was the year that Resident Evil took over our PlayStations. shoulder-length hair (2) Shoulder-length hair is hair at shoulder length, within a few centimetres margin.
